Description:
If your shift lever feels loose or wobbles back and forth when in gear, you likely need to replace the shifter pin bushings. These genuine, original equipment (OEM) nylon bushings fit in either side of the shift lever where the pin is inserted (see 20-1121 in Related Items for the bushing that goes over the "ball" at the bottom of the shifter). The bushings wear over time as the shift lever pivots on the shifter pin. Sold individually; 2 required per car.
Application Note:
This is the early style bushing used originally in all B-Style S30 manual transmissions (72-78) and early 280ZX non-turbo manual transmissions. The shift lever that requires these bushings has a round hole that the shifter bushings and pin fit through. Late style levers, which have a rectangular hole and a dampener spring in the center, are often found in earlier model Z-Cars that have been 5-speed swapped using a 280ZX B-Style transmission (note that these transmissions also have the tall "shifter ears", although not all tall ear transmissions used the later lever). Regardless of what year your car is, if your shift lever has a round hole when the bushings are removed, these are the replacement bushings you need. See Related Items if your shift lever has rectangular holes instead.
Note:
You should inspect the shifter pin for wear as well, especially if the bushings were badly worn. Don't forget to replace the transmission shift boot, which keeps dirt and contaminants away from these bushings! See 40-2503 in Related Items.
