Important Design Notes:
Nissan has discontinued the original ignition switch for the early model Z's. These switches are a bit different compared to the discontinued originals. They are replacement switches that have a slightly different appearance and use a different type of key*, but they retain the important functions of the originals. They do not include wiring for "key alert" buzzer found on some later S30's.
Description:
Ignition switches serve multiple purposes, ranging from starting the car (ignition) to security (locking the steering wheel when the key). Wear to either the electrical or mechanical parts of the assembly can prevent proper functionality. Includes the housing, rear electrical portion, lock, mounting hardware, and pre-cut keys.
*Key Note:
Ignition Switches come with 2 pre-cut keys. This switch does not use the same type of key as your original ignition switch. Your factory keys will not work with this unit. This also means that our replacement key blanks also will not fit in this ignition. Please give us a call if you have any questions.
Note:
If you are having electronic issues related to the ignition switch, such as the starter not engaging when the key is turned to "Start", but the switch is otherwise still functional (the key turns fine and the steering lock works), you may only need to replace the electrical portion of your switch; see 12-4208 in Related Items.
