Ground Service Shipping Update, January 2022

To our loyal and valued customers: it's been over six years since we last changed our shipping charges. Since that update, UPS, Fed-Ex, and USPS have increased their rates annually every January. In the past two years, the carriers have also modified many of the rules which determine freight charges. Oversize charges, delivery fees to residential addresses, extra charges for rural locations, and premiums for certain weight boxes have caused costs to almost double.

Up to this point, we have absorbed these increases. However, the latest rate upcharges from the carriers require that we adjust our shipping fees. Rest assured, these fees reflect what Motorsport is being charged by the carriers. In some cases, we continue to charge less than what the freight company charges us.

Ground Service Shipping Update, March 2015

Many years ago, FedEx and UPS started adding a surcharge for packages measuring 3 cubic feet or greater by the space they took up on the trucks, as opposed to their actual weight. This is called “dimensional weight”. You’ve seen us refer to these as “oversized packages”.

In January of this year, in addition to an almost 5% increase in overall rates, both FedEx and UPS also raised their prices significantly by applying this “dimensional weight” surcharge to every package, regardless of size: (http://www.fedex.com/us/2015rates/other-changes.html) (http://rates.ups.com/). This means the cost to ship some lightweight parts jumped significantly. As a result, we’ve been forced to bump some of our shipping rates.

In an effort to help our customers, Motorsport is subsidizing some of the higher fees charged by the carriers. As an example, shipping an upholstery kit to the East Coast via UPS or Fed-EX used to cost about $15; in January, those charges were increased to $27. Our current shipping rate for this kit is $24, less than what we’re charged by the carriers (UPDATE: We've been able to negotiate a lower rate on this box! Now shipping to the East Coast for about $20, down from $24). Same with headlight covers. Fed-Ex and UPS charge us $17, our shipping rate is less than $15.
