Over time, the rubber portion of this shifter support can wear out, causing the shift lever assembly to hang loosely in the transmission tunnel. Replacement is the only option once the rubber gives out. Don't try to drive and hold the shift lever up: it's not fun and definitely not safe! Don't forget to replace the inner shift boot while you're in there (see Related Items below). This is the genuine, original equipment (OEM) replacement bracket.
