The hoses of the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system are known to dry out, harden, and eventually crack, split, or fall apart. A split hose can lead to reduced fuel economy in the best of cases or debris getting into the engine in the worst case (which can lead oil contamination and eventually internal damage). It is best to inspect these hoses periodically and replace them if they start to harden or develop any sort of surface wear. This genuine, original equipment (OEM) hose connects the driver's side valve cover to the factory intake tube, serving as the fresh air intake point for the PCV system.
