Description:
If the fusible links in your car have never been changed, or if the covers are damaged or missing, it's a good idea to replace all of the links at the same time as the covers. This kit takes the guesswork out of choosing the right links for your car and includes new covers to replace your old, cracked pieces. Note that if your covers were broken or missing, it is also a good idea to clean the male connectors inside the assemblies and remove any accumulated dirt or debris.

Fusible Links:
These are genuine factory Nissan Fusible Links. Fusible links are a critical safety component for early Z-Cars. Their function is similar to other fuse types since they protect the electrical system - from damage in one component - spreading to the whole circuit. When too much power flows through the circuit due to a problem (short circuit, etc.) the Fusible Link which is in that circuit will be the first item to fail (or burn out/melt), which then cuts the power to the circuit, and whatever part/wire/connection/etc. is causing the problem. While it is possible for Fusible Links to burn out simply from old age, they are the safety valve, not the problem to be fixed. Whenver a Fusible Link fails, that electrical circuit must be tested for whatever problem caused the fuse (Fusible Link) to fail. This is especially true if more than one link has burned out at the same time or if you have replaced the same link previously. If you just replace the Fusible Link and ignore the circuit, the link may fail again, or whatever caused the link to burn could cause a catastrophic failure, sometimes even resulting in a fire.

Fusible Link Safety:
Fusible Links are much more than a length of wire. They are specifically designed using a special type of wire construction, with special safety insulation made of heat-resistant cross linked CPE (Chlorinated Polyethylene). Using regular wire in place of a fusible link, even in an emergency situation, is extremely dangerous. This is true even if you choose standard wire that is smaller than the circuit, because of the level of fire-resistant insulation. If you use a standard wire that is the same size or larger than the circuit, you are at a high risk of catastrophic failure of what is in that circuit, or even a car fire. We recommend always having spare Fuses and Fusible Links stored in your Z, especially if you travel.
