Description:
Tune ups are an important part of the periodic maintenance of your Z. The metal parts of the spark plugs wear down over time from heat caused by repeated use. This can lead to poor fuel economy, engine performance, and eventually cause misfires in extreme cases. Dirty engine filters and a blockage in the PCV valve will also decrease performance and economy. The cabin air filter is often overlooked, leading to foul odors in the passenger compartment. Like the 350Z, the 370Z doesn't have a specified tune up interval. Caps and rotors aren't used, the fuel filter is non-replaceable, and spark plug technology has advanced to the point that they don't need to be replaced every 30,000 miles. In fact, Nissan recommends replacing the spark plugs at 105,000 miles! While this recommendation works for someone who daily drives their car and is the original owner, it doesn't really apply to everyone. It is also a good idea to perform a tune up if the car has sat for a long period of time, or if you recently purchased the car. Any kind of ignition service or upgrade, such as replacing the ignition coils, also warrants a tune up. Those who drive their cars more aggressively or actively race should perform tune ups more often, although the exact interval depends on how the car is being used.

Service Tip:
It's a good idea to replace the emissions hoses during your tune up, since they will need to be removed during the job and tend to become hard and brittle over time. See the individual hoses in Related Items below for more info.
