MSA 3-2 TBC Coated Header, With Smog Fittings, 86-89 300ZX Non-Turbo
You can choose a Z-Car from your garage, or from the selections above, to filter the store or check part fitment.
Performance Exhaust Overview:
A performance engine is an integrated affair. When you modify one set of components, you have an effect on other systems. On a mildly modified engine, a minor upgrade in either the cam specs, exhaust system, or intake can be done independently. For performance, camshafts work best when integrated with upgrades in the exhaust and intake. The exhaust system is probably the first area to improve on any engine, because this will only enhance future modifications. The study of Physics tells us that we usually can't get "something for nothing", but when adding headers and improved exhaust components to an engine, we almost do. The improved exhaust flow and velocity derived from tubular headers and free flowing mufflers is one of the only modifications you can make to an engine which will improve both power and fuel economy.
Includes:
Description:
These outstanding headers are built especially for Motorsport to our strict specifications. The thick exhaust flanges are flat machined to promote a consistent seal and prevention of warping. Exhaust ports have high-quality welds to ensure leak-free performance. The primary tubes are just under 1 5/8" to ensure increased exhaust flow without any performance loss. This header comes with flanged connecting pipes that reach to the stock catalytic converter. The rather expensive exhaust gaskets required for installation to the heads are included. This header configuration is for original 86-89 300ZX Non-Turbo only. Includes threaded fittings for the EGR Valve and Oxygen Sensor*.
Thermal Coating:
This header comes with a highly durable and effective Aerospace Thermal Barrier Ceramic or TBC coating, which is good up to 1300 degrees fahrenheit. The satin "polished" silver finish isn't just for good looks, it does a number of good things: First, it cuts radiated heat by approximately 40%. Not only does this help to keep your under hood rubbers and plastics from drying out, it also lowers the temperature of the fuel and air which translates into increased performance. Secondly, locking much of the exhaust heat in the pipe keeps the exhaust flowing more rapidly, also increasing performance. Finally, it protects the header tube metal underneath the coating from corrosion, which is guaranteed for the life of the header (restrictions apply). (Note: If you are interested in creating a custom color scheme under your hood, you may also want to consider our non-coated headers, which you can paint to match however you wish. See part 15-6015 in Related Items below.)
Smog Legality:
Even with the EGR Valve and Oxygen Sensor fittings, headers may not be street legal in some areas. Check with the motor vehicle code/department in your area.
Oxygen Sensor Note:
300ZX models use a special mounting nut to secure the oxygen sensor to the factory exhaust manifold. In addition, Nissan used a non-standard O2 sensor size for 86-89 model years. We kept this in mind when developing these headers, and designed them to work with the adapter nut for flexibility. You will need to either reuse your existing mounting nut with your existing sensor or purchase a replacement nut (14-3480 or 14-3481). The adapter size you need may vary depending on the setup you are using, as some aftermarket sensors (O2, A/F, etc.) may need the standard size fitting instead.
