  • (1) 3.0 Ohm Ignition Coil, Black

Description:
While they're the only performance coils that should be used with the PerTronix Ignitor, the 40,000 volt Flame-Thrower canister coils can benefit virtually any distributor type inductive system. Its higher voltage allows larger spark plug gaps for added power, smoother response and better fuel economy. They are oil filled for great heat control, and internally resisted. Legal in all 50 U.S. states and Canada (C.A.R.B. E.O. #D-57-10). For all other areas, check your local laws.

Point Type Distributors:
For 240Z's with points, do NOT use this coil with a Ballast Resistor. This Pertronix is a 3 ohm coil, and the 240Z had an original (Coil + Ballast Resistor) resistance of approximately 3 ohms. If you use this coil plus the original Ballast Resistor, you will have around 4.6 ohms of resistance, which will not work properly. If you are using your original Ballast Resistor, choose the 1.5 ohm PerTronix coil instead (see Related Items).

Factory Electronic Ignition:
1974 and later Z's with original ignition should use the 1.5 Ohm coil, in Related Items, as opposed to this PerTronix 3.0 Ohm coil, and also should retain the stock ballast resistor.

Aftermarket Ignitions:
For the PerTronix Ignitor system, PerTronix recommends using this 3.0 Ohm coil, and not using a ballast resistor. If you are using a PerTronix Ignitor, and keeping your ballast resistor, use the 1.5 Ohm coil, in Related Items, instead. For other aftermarket ignition systems, please check with that ignition system manufacturer for whether a 1.5 or 3.0 Ohm coil will work best.

Installation Note:
This Pertronix coil is approximately 56 mm in diameter. Installation may be possible with your current bracket (see "Original Brackets" below), or simply add a Chrome Bracket, or Chrome Coil Cover & Bracket, from Related Items, both of which will work properly with this coil.

Original Brackets:
Original 240Z coils (and many replacements) were a little smaller than this Pertronix coil. If you have an original 240Z bracket, you may need to obtain a longer adjustment screw to use your original bracket. From 1974-1983, the original coil (and many replacements) were a little larger. If you have a 1974 & later original coil bracket, this coil should fit within the original bracket's adjustment. Even Nissan original parts often varied, so base your decision on your current coil's diameter, and the adjustment remaining in your current bracket in either direction.
