Description:
The Brake Light Switch is located underneath the dashboard and controls when the brake lights turn on and off. It is a momentary style switch with a plunger that is normally depressed when the brake pedal is in its resting position. Over time, the contacts in the switch can corrode and dirt can be pulled inside, which prevents proper contact when the switch is opened (the brake pedal is depressed). In most cases, an intermittent issue will develop from these issues where the brake lights may not turn on sometimes, or the brake lights specifically may be dimmer than normal. When that is the case, this genuine, original equipment (OEM) replacement is the best option to make sure those brake lights properly illuminate every time!
Note:
If your Z has an issue where the brake lights are always turned on, this switch is unlikely to be the cause (but should still be inspected regardless). A missing grommet on the pedal is usually the cause of this type of problem; see 21-2155 in Related Items.
