The life of a camshaft depends on proper lubrication. Improper and/or inferior oil formulas put your camshaft and motor at risk. Current strict emissions standards have pushed the oil companies to pull zinc, phosphorus, and other high pressure lubricants (ZDDP) out of their oils. While not an issue for more modern applications (350Z and newer), older cars (300ZX and older) rely on these lubricants to protect vital internal components (such as the valvetrain). Additionally, this combination of high pressure lubricants is essential for the break-in process on older engines, and is mandatory for the Schneider cam warranty.
Schneider Racing Cams developed their Formula 2 additive*, a proprietary blend break-in engine oil additive, to ensure proper operation and life of their performance camshafts. It restores proper ZDDP levels in oil to facilitate proper engine break-in and preventing premature failure. For all L-Series and VG engines, this additive package is considered as mandatory for any break in procedure regardless of installed components. It can also be used after engine break in is completed to further protect your engine, and is compatible with all engine oil types including synthetics.

Schneider Racing Cams will only warranty their camshafts when run with this (or another comparable) additive, as well as properly configured and sized new lash pads, the proper new rocker arms, and additionally for 70-83 L-Series engines, the Schneider valve spring kit.
