Description:
The voltage regulator is designed to stabilize and maintain maximum voltage output at a constant rate. This is done by adjusting how much energy the alternator outputs in order to protect sensitive components in the electrical system. Excess power output is redirected towards charging the battery. Some signs of a bad regulator include flickering interior lights and sporadic increases or decreases in power; however, in some cases the signs are slight enough to not be noticeable.
Note:
Voltage Regulators and Alternators are paired components within the electrical system and should be replaced in pairs. It is common for these parts to cause their counterpart to go bad, especially after replacing only one of the two. Specifically, a bad voltage regulator can cause a good or even brand new alternator to go bad, and the reverse is also true. We recommend having both your alternator and battery tested prior to ordering, in addition to testing your current voltage regulator, in order to confirm the source of the issue you are seeing.
