Description:
Choosing the right speedometer pinion is very important. One size too large or small will cause your speedometer to give an incorrect reading. Fortunately, Nissan gave us two ways to identify the gear in your car: tooth count and color. This genuine, original equipment (OEM) assembly includes the 18-tooth (blue) pinion gear, 21-7188 sleeve (housing), large and small o-rings, and retaining pin, already assembled and ready to install**.

• (1) 21-7188 Sleeve (Housing)**
• (1) 20-1552 Large O-Ring
• (1) 20-1550 Small O-Ring
• (1) 21-7190 Locking Pin

Factory Application:
This size speedo pinion was originally equipped in these transmissions:

• Select 5 speed B-Style Transmissions (80-83 N/T J Coupes & All 2+2)
• 5 speed C-Style Transmissions (84-86 N/T)
• 5 speed 30A Type Transmissions (87-89 T)

Gear Ratio Note:
Nissan Competition specifies this pinion size for use with 3.700 Differential Gear Ratios.

Pinion Gear Size Note:
If your Z has a different tire size or differential gear ratio and your speedometer is showing an incorrect reading, you may need to change the pinion gear from the original size to match your current setup. Installing a larger gear size will result in a lower speedo reading, while a smaller gear will result in a higher reading.

**Pinion Sleeve Note:
This Speedometer Pinion Assembly is configured for use with later model transmissions, which are commonly swapped into earlier Z-Cars. There are 2 distinct sleeve types, which position the pinion gear at different offsets. Which housing is correct for your application will depend on the transmission installed in your car and the pinion size you need. This assembly includes our part number 21-7188 sleeve; refer to "Fitment Notes" on that product page (see Related Items) to determine whether it is the sleeve type you need for your specific application or give us a call at (714)639-2620 or Email us. Although the housing is not currently available separately, this assembly can be purchased and disassembled if you find that the sleeve matches your application but the pinion does not (a separate roll pin will be required to do this; see Related Items).
