Description:
Choosing the right speedometer pinion is very important. One size too large or small will cause your speedometer to give an incorrect reading. Fortunately, Nissan gave us two ways to identify the gear in your car: tooth count and color. This is the genuine, original equipment (OEM) 22 tooth gear, which is orange in color. Includes both the gear and pinion. Sleeve (housing), retaining pin, and o-rings sold separately; see Related Items. We recommend checking both the tooth count and the color before ordering.

Factory Application:
This size speedo pinion was not originally found in Z-Car transmissions. It was offered from Nissan Competition for race drivers that changed the gearing in their differential or tire size. Nissan Competition specifies this pinion size for use with 4.625 Differential Gear Ratios.

Pinion Gear Size Note:
If your Z has a different tire size or differential gear ratio and your speedometer is showing an incorrect reading, you may need to change the pinion gear from the original size to match your current setup. Installing a larger gear size will result in a lower speedo reading, while a smaller gear will result in a higher reading.

Pinion Sleeve Note:
In most cases, this pinion gear WILL NOT work directly in the original pinion sleeve used in your current transmission unless it has already been converted to use a 20 tooth gear or larger. The larger pinion gear sizes require a different housing compared to the smaller sizes to properly position the gear in the transmission. Replacement sleeves are not available on their own at this time; however, they are not entirely discontinued either. Speedometer Pinion Assemblies include new housings; these can be disassembled, then reassembled with the size you need if the assembly you need is not available. Model Restriction:
Fits all 70-83 manual and automatic transmissions. For 84-89 models, fits manual transmissions only. Will not fit on 300ZX automatic transmissions.
