This genuine, original equipment (OEM) spring is the source of the "tension" in the timing belt tensioner. It fits around the base of the tensioner assembly. The inner extension fits into the hole on the side of the tensioner base while the outer extension rests against a stud mounted in the block (14-1740 in Related Items). Sold individually; see Related Items for the rest of the tensioner hardware.
