Description:
Motorsport has joined forces with KONI to create an exciting new product; one of the most requested upgrades for early Z-Cars. Completely new, constructed specifically for 70-83 240Z, 260Z, 280Z, & 280ZX, and available exclusively at Motorsport, these externally-rebound-adjustable, twin-tube low pressure gas-charged KONI Sport Yellow strut cartridge inserts are designed for use on both stock & modified street cars as well as autocross & track day cars. Built to give a good balance of street ride quality and handling at the soft end of the adjustment range, the KONI Sports can easily be tuned up to nearly double the rebound damping force for more aggressive control needs: simply open the hood or rear hatch and turn the KONI adjuster knob shown above (see video below). Not only can you tailor the struts to your local driving conditions and to your taste, you can also quickly and easily change the settings and have a blast at a weekend autocross or mountain run, then easily re-set them for a relaxed ride home. Whatever suspension behavior you need is literally at your fingertips. If you race at different tracks and on differing conditions, the adjustable damping gives you an edge in setting up your car for a specific track or autocross course. The strut kits are sold individually (1 required per vehicle "corner", 4 total required per car). More images, data, road test results, and video to come soon.
What's Included:
Sold individually. Purchasing a quantity of 1 includes 1 Strut Cartridge, 1 Hardware Pack, 1 Adjuster Knob, and instructions. A quantity of 2 would be required to complete the rear of your Z. See Related Items for the front Struts.
IMPORTANT INSTALLATION NOTE!
Please be absolutely certain to inform any mechanic or helper working on your KONI struts, on the first or any subsequent installation, to follow the instructions implicitly and never use an impact tool to tighten the top nut! This is strictly forbidden by KONI as it can easily jam the internal adjuster rod to the maximum setting, leaving you with stuck adjusters that often cannot be repaired, and which would NOT be covered by the warranty. If your helper or mechanic ignored this warning and your adjusters are stuck, there are procedures to try that sometimes can successfully free the adjusters. However the easiest path is to make certain nobody uses an impact wrench, and avoid damage altogether.
Test Pilot!
Renowned Artist & Z Race Car Owner/Driver Hector Cademartori was key in the initial testing of the Koni Sport Yellow Z Struts. Hector and a KONI development engineer used a street Z that was subjected to various trials, from relaxed street driving to all-out performance. See what Hector has to say here.
Test 260Z!
Well-known Z Enthusiast and Racer Ian Stewart also helped with the testing on the Koni struts, with his 260Z. Ian gives his impressions of the struts and their adjustment range, as well as his comparisons to the Tokico Struts that these replaced. See what Ian had to say here.
