Description:
The oil slinger (or thrower as Nissan calls it) is the metal ring that fits in front of the oil pump drive gear on the crankshaft. Its job is to "sling" oil on the timing chain to help keep it lubricated at low engine rpm. If you notice significant wear on your timing chain, it may be a good idea to replace the slinger along with the chain. This is the genuine, original equipment (OEM) slinger.
Note:
Opinions on the use of an oil slinger vary. Some swear by using them, others claim it is better not to. Here is what we recommend in regards to this part:

Note:
Opinions on the use of an oil slinger vary. Some swear by using them, others claim it is better not to. Here is what we recommend in regards to this part:
- If you are building a stock or street motor that will mostly be kept in the lower part of the rpm range, the oil slinger should be kept in place in order to properly lubricate the timing chain and protect your engine. Note that this applies to the vast majority of Z-Car engines.
- If you are building a race engine, or high performance motor that will be run at high rpm for long intervals regularly, it may* be better to remove the slinger from the engine. In these motors, the timing chain should get enough oil without the slinger. In addition, the slinger can actually prevent some oil from returning to the oil pan at high rpm, which can cause issues if the high rpm is maintained for a length of time. *Prior to making a decision on this, it is critically important that you speak with your Race Engineer to determine which option is best for your specific build.
