Alert:
The demand for rebuilding S.U. Carburetors has increased dramatically, and the rebuilder is currently reporting a lead time of approximately 6 months. We are always searching for options, and hope this lead time will improve.
Description:
Improve the performance of your old S.U. Carburetors! These completely remanufactured 70-72 240Z SU carburetors will bolt to your existing manifold. They are fully refurbished on genuine Datsun cores, including the outer appearance and linkage. The original easily worn throttle shaft connection has been improved with stainless steel. These carburetors are sold on an exchange basis only, and require 70-72 S.U. Cores for the exchange. If you are obtaining early 70-72 cores locally, be sure to also get the linkage between the carburetors as well. This is especially important for 73-74 Z owners, as the 70-72 center linkage is different than the original 73-74 linkage. Remanufactured linkage is provided in the kit. If you cannot find a linkage, please give us a call. Also, the 73-74 air cleaners will not attach correctly to the early carburetors, you will need to change air cleaners to a different style, like our Ramflo or K&N Air cleaners. We stock all the parts necessary to finish this terrific conversion. So bolt a pair of these improved S.U.'s on your 70-72 240Z, and enjoy a vast improvement. Or change over to them on your 1973 or 1974 Z, and you won't believe you're driving the same car! (Check your local smog laws). Sold in pairs on a like-exchange basis only. Cores must be complete 70-72 original carburetors only, complete with center linkage, in rebuildable condition only. If you can't find a rebuildable set of 70-72 Carburetors to exchange let us know, we often have rebuildable cores available.
S.U. Type Identification:
The easiest method of identification of these carburetors is the number of screws that hold down the large dome on top of the carburetor (the center of the dome holds the oil dipstick). 1970 & early 1971 240Z's used 4 screws to bolt the dome to the body of the carburetor. Late 1971 & 1972's used 3 screws to bolt the dome to the body of the carburetor. Use this information to choose "S.U. Type" above
Application Notes:
Not sure if this conversion would benefit your 73-74 Z? The carburetors that were installed as original equipment on 1973 and 1974 Z's were designed for low emissions, not performance or driveability. Typically, these later carburetors caused hard starting, flooding, vapor locking, and poor low-end power. Early SU carburetors are a good way to solve these problems. Also for 73-74 Z Owners, remember that your old carburetors (cores) that you return must be 70-72 S.U. Carburetors, complete with the center linkage, intact, and in rebuildable condition. Original 73-74 carburetors are not acceptable. If you have any questions, give us a call prior to ordering. Don't forget carb oil, listed below.
