These all-new Speaker Panels are finished and in stock! We are currently assembling the hardware necessary for a basic installation kit.

Customers can reserve their speaker panel now, to get theirs as soon as the hardware kit is finished. To get yours reserved, just order using a credit card, and we will reserve one for you. We will not charge you until the parts are ready to ship. (Note: If you choose PayPal, they will charge you ahead of time, so we strongly recommend using a credit card). Thanks for your patience!

Option: Since the installation kit will utilize the brackets already a part of your Z-Car, read through our Fitment & Installation page: If you choose a custom installation, just let us know and we can ship your order without the hardware (which will simply consist of a few brackets, screws, and rubber spacers, all available at any hardware store).

Description:
On a road trip, the Z-Car is nearly perfect, except for one thing: hearing your stereo clearly through small speakers aimed at each other in the rear of the car. Here is the best answer we've found yet, our custom-designed Fiberglass speaker panel, available exclusively at Motorsport. Fiberglass is widely considered a premium material for the creation of custom speaker panels. These awesome panels improve upon the wood variety, as fiberglass is considered to promote better sound quality, is lighter & stronger, and can be customized to any color or finish you wish (See Finishing Options below). This panel replaces the interior tail light panel completely, has openings for two 6x9" speakers (speakers not included), can be installed in multiple ways (See the Installation Notes page), and points those speakers right at the driver's area. The design includes a center hole for a bass relief port tube (included). This panel is made from quality, thick fiberglass; and is sturdy enough to support any speaker that will fit*.

Finishing Options:
This panel comes ready to prep and finish: You could use any color paint, many other types of textured coating, various materials or wraps like vinyl, leather, or fabrics. Trying to match an interior color? SEM brand interior paints are usually the closest match. Important: Always finalize how you’re going to install the panel (see the installation & fitment page), and go through the "Speaker Notes" fitment information below, before your custom paint or material finishing. In addition, whether for cosmetic purposes, or for audio purposes, generic rubber trim/"weatherstrip" is available in many different configurations and types which you could use to trim out your panel. It truly is up to your vision and preference!

Unfinished Example:
The only vehicle we had to take a picture in was an in-need-of-restoration 240Z we have in a lowly lit warehouse, using flash only! The image below will give you an idea of how the panel might look in your car. As you can see the Deck Lid Panel and weatherstrip are not in great condition! We cleaned up a few spots on the carpet and deck lid, so we'll call this an Artist's Rendition. The panel is how it comes raw, before you paint or finish it how you prefer, so keep that in mind. We hope to work on the car a bit and then take a better image when we next move the car. We encourage everybody to send in images of their finished creation, and we'll make a few of them famous here. Protective Coating:
Just like our fiberglass air dams, this fiberglass item has a gel coating to protect the fiberglass itself from scratches. It is not a finish coat. As stated above in "Finishing Options", once you decide how you want to finish your panel, if painting is your choice, you will need to sand down the coating to prepare it for final priming and painting. You will notice scratching in this surface, which is exactly what it was designed to do, to take any scratching that can occur in production, transport, storage, handling, and shipping, keeping the fiberglass from being damaged. If your preference will be to cover the panel with another material, this gelcoat can be ignored. Please let us know if you have any questions.

*Speaker Notes:
Remember that 6x9" speakers come in many different depths, as well as having different cutout dimensions for proper placement and mounting.
Step 1, Clearance: First, prior to choosing your speakers, completely install your speaker panel, and confirm the exact clearance you have available on your Z between the panel and your tail light area. Note that there may not be enough clearance for some deep speakers, or those with large magnets. If you choose shorter depth speakers, like our RetroSound speakers (see Related Items), you may skip this step as they will have plenty of clearance, and they sound great too!
Step 2, Speaker Cutouts: Variances in the exact installation “hole” size needed from speaker brand to speaker brand is a known issue. To give you the greatest speaker option flexibility, we made the oval speaker cutouts a bit small on purpose, to insure that the openings will not be too large for most 6x9 speakers you may choose. When you pick your preferred speakers, if needed, simply Dremel or file the necessary material from the oval speaker panel cutouts, to get a proper fit for your chosen speakers. Fiberglass is one of the easiest materials to modify in this way, as even a simple round file will remove material, as needed, quickly and easily. After you've test fit your new speaker panel, and know the clearances you’ll have, check the speaker's specifications online prior to purchasing your speakers.

Bass Relief Port:
The bass tube is included in the price, but not pre-installed since you may want to paint or otherwise customize the finish on your panel first. The tube installs very simply, with silicone type adhesive suggested where the port flange meets the speaker panel. For the audiophiles among you, we chose a bass port at the maximum length that should be used for proper clearance behind the port. The port will work great as it is with any speaker setup and does not require modification. For those who wish to adjust the length of the bass port to fine-tune their bass response to match their highly customized speaker setup & audio system details, the bass port can be easily reduced in length as needed with a simple hacksaw or similar cutting or grinding tools. Gotta love those audiophiles!
